Flu Season Sick Meal Policy

Dining Services will be temporarily amending the current Sick Meal procedure in anticipation of a heavier than normal Flu season. The new Flu Sick Meal procedure will make the process easier for you to get a meal when you are ill. This new procedure will start immediately and will run through the Flu season.

If you are feeling too ill to purchase your own meal, you can send your Hokie Passport with a roommate or friend to purchase a meal for you. The friend or roommate will purchase the sick meal using your card (as the purchaser) and then have their card swiped (no charge to the friend's card...so there will be an official record of who used your card under this program). Shultz Express, DXpress, Owens Food Court and Hokie Grill will have microwaveable Chicken Noodle Soup, PowerAde and Saltine Crackers available everyday in addition to regular menu offerings.

Want information about the season flu or H1N1 flu?

The university is maintaining a Flu Information page with links to current CDC recommendations, flu signs & symptoms, terminology and tips on what you can do to stay healthy.

Lost ID Policy

If you lose your ID card, contact the Hokie Passport Office at 231-5121 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), or the Virginia Tech Police Department at 231-6411 (after hours) so your ID card can be protected from misuse. Lost or stolen cards can also be deactivated at MyVT, under the "Personal Info" tab. You must have a driver's license or another form of photo identification in order to report your lost ID.

The university assumes no responsibility for illegitimate purchases from your account prior to your notifying the proper authorities that it is lost or stolen.

All customers wishing to use a dining account to purchase food must present their Hokie Passport ID for payment. In order to protect your account, there will be no exceptions.

Customers who have lost a Hokie Passport ID will need to do one of the following in order to eat:

  • Monday - Friday before 5:00 p.m.
    Go to the Hokie Passport Office located in 100 Student Services Building to obtain a new Hokie Passport ID card.

  • Monday - Friday after 5:00 p.m. or on the weekends
    Go to Owens Food Court to request and complete a lost card disclaimer. This disclaimer will allow you to eat at Owens Food Court, D2, or Shultz Dining Center (you cannot eat at West End Market, Hokie Grill & Co., Squires Food Court, or Deet's Place). You will be required to obtain a new Hokie Passport ID by 5:00 p.m. the following business day.

  • or pay cash.

After re-validating your account, take your new ID to the dining center where you ate to ensure your account has been correctly updated.

Dining Dollars and Hokie Passport Accounts cannot be accessed without a student ID card.

Sick Meal Policy

Students who are sick or unable to visit a dining facility due to a temporary physical disability (e.g. broken leg or back injury) can make special meal arrangements. The manager of D2, Shultz, Owens Food Court, Hokie Grill & Co., or West End Market must be called in advance to arrange for this service. The individual requesting this service must provide the name of the person who will pick up the meal, a meal preference, a time when the meal will be picked up, a telephone number where the student can be reached, and the Hokie Passport of the person requesting the meal.

The individual requesting the meal should write down the name of the manager coordinating the sick meal and give it to the person picking up the meal.

Students must call the manager for each sick meal needed. If the illness or temporary disability extends over two days, a doctor's note detailing the condition must be presented to the manager. A special pass will be issued for these circumstances. Persons requesting meals in Owens Food Court, Hokie Grill & Co., or West End Market must be issued a special pass by the manager.

Use the following phone numbers to arrange for this service:

* Shultz: 231-6873
* Owens Food Court: 231-6187
* Hokie Grill & Co.: 231-6187
* West End Market: 231-4779
* D2: 231-6130
