The RA Application Process

To submit an application for a Resident Advisor position:

1. All applicants are required to attend an information session before being able to log onto the RA application.

2. Please review the application thoroughly! There is a lot of detailed information regarding the positions, eligibility requirements, housing application requirements, conditions of employment and options included herein. NOTE: Although you may update your online application as often as you like, you may only hit submit once! Please review your application carefully before submitting it.

3. Prepare the following materials to submit on the on-line application:

    A. Application: Fill out the Resident Advisor Application Form.

    B. Short Answer Questions: Prepare a written response to the short answer questions included in the application. If you are interested in a theme RA position, you will be be asked additional questions regarding the theme of interest. All short answer questions should be included in the online application. It is highly recommended that applicants type their short answers in a word document (to allow for spelling checks) and then Cut and Paste responses into the application boxes.

    C. Recommendation Forms: Applicants must have three recommendations and we ask that specific people write two of them.  The applicant should be prepared to list the name and e-mail address for their current RA, one advisor or faculty member at Virginia Tech (must have a VT email address) and one additional recommendation of their choice who could speak to related skills.

Again, be prepared with the name and e-mail address for:

    1) Your Current RA
Not just any RA on the residence hall staff.

    2) Virginia Tech faculty or staff member
This should be a Professor, Advisor or Staff member that can offer observations and comments regarding your candidacy. This person must have a VT address.

    3) General Evaluator of your choice
This third person may be a current or former employer/supervisor, advisor, coach, teacher, additional staff member, or someone who can offer observations and comments regarding your candidacy. Please do not use your roommate or a relative.

Once an application is submitted, e-mails will automatically be sent to all three of the applicant's references. They will be given a link to fill out a recommendation form.

All three recommendation forms must be submitted by the application deadline to have a complete application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to follow up with each of the individuals references to ensure completion. The applicant will be able to view the completion status on the original application.

D. Interview Scheduling: You will indicate the date on which you want to interview by selecting the appropriate box on the application form. You will receive e-mail confirmation of your interview schedule for that date the week prior. There will only be two interviews for this process. Interview dates will be:
Fall: Friday/Saturday, December 4 and 5, 2009
Spring: Friday/Saturday, February 19 and 20, 2010

E. ALL applications and recommendation forms should be submitted by the deadline at 5:00 p.m.

Deadline for December Interview: Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Deadline for February Interview: Sunday, January 24, 2010
