Join a Fraternity or Sorority

Virginia Tech hosts one of the largest Greek communities in the United States, encompassing 15 percent of the undergraduate population. Each fraternity or sorority chapter is governed by one of four councils, and each council has different recruitment procedures. Visit the council and chapter websites to find more information about becoming a member.

Collegiate Panhellenic Council

The Virginia Tech Panhellenic Council supports the women's fraternities and sororities that are represented by membership in the National Panhellenic Conference. Panhellenic Council chapters hold formal recruitment in early January around the beginning of the spring semester.

Interfraternity Council

The Virginia Tech Interfraternity Council governs chapters of the campus North-American Interfraternity Conference affiliated men's general fraternities. Official recruitment takes place in the fall and spring semesters, but IFC fraternities can extend invitations to affiliate at any time throughout the year.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

NPHC coordinates the traditionally African-American nationally affiliated collegiate fraternal chapters. This council does not conduct formal recruitment, and different procedures apply for each chapter.

United Council of Fraternities and Sororities

The UCFS governs multicultural and special-interest fraternities and sororities. Different recruitment procedures apply for each chapter. (UCFS has no official website at this time.)
