New Residence Hall 2
This project has been put on hold indefinitely because of unforeseen budget concerns.
The new residence hall will be located on the Dietrick lawn, between Ambler Johnston and Pritchard Halls. The building will be situated near Washington Street, closing in the open side of the Prairie Quad and leaving a prominent open green space.
The layout will be a new style for the Virginia Tech campus, with 10 townhouse-like units accommodating between 15 and 31 beds each. The building will be five stories high with a bridge connecting the two separate wings.
Each unit will feature a central enclosed stairway with atrium, shared living room, study lounges, full kitchen, and two laundry rooms. Bedrooms will house two students, sharing a private bath for each room. Each unit will foster a small distinct community located within the larger community of the building.
This building and all new construction projects in Student Programs’ current master building plan are designed with sustainability in mind and will meet requirements for U.S. Green Building Council LEED silver certification.
