The housekeeping and maintenance staff of Student Programs takes care of the residence halls, creating a clean and well-maintained environment for our students. At night and on weekends, our on-call emergency staff is able to respond to situations quickly.
Fire Safety
These pages provide an overview of fire and life safety systems in residence halls and outlines resident responsibilities for maintaining a safe living environment.
Key Access/Control
Storing, tracking, and issuing keys to the more than 4,600 rooms, building doors, and staff keys is the responsibility of the Key Control area. As a resident, key issues are usually handled in your area office.
Capital
Construction and Renovations
As residence halls are built, refurbished, and maintained, this area manages the specifications and requisitions, creates and evaluates planning documents, and actively works with different contractors and the Virginia Tech architect's office.
Maintenance, Furniture,
and Housekeeping Work Orders
You can submit your own requests for repairs, replacement or services using the online work order system. You will be able to track progress on the request, and provide customer service feedback on the service received. Resident Advisors will be responsible for reporting work order requests in common areas, (such as the hallway, bathroom, or lounge) while general students will enter work order requests for their individual room.
Emergencies and Work Orders
During emergencies, you need to contact your RA or the housing staff
immediately. Anytime there is running water (a stopped up sink is not an emergency; water overflowing into the floor is...), electrical problems (sparks, loss of all room lighting/power), or safety issues affecting life or property (broken glass in the hall, body spills, inability to secure door/locks, etc.) - DO NOT USE THE WORK ORDER SYSTEM - immediately notify a staff member.
During Office Hours: (Mon-Fri, 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.)
Contact the Facilities Helpdesk at (540) 231-1111.
After Office Hours: (Mon-Fri, 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 a.m., all weekends)
Contact a Resident Advisor in your residence hall. They will communicate with
the housing personnel about the problem. They can also help
with notifying other residents that might be affected by the problem. If necessary,
you may also contact the Virginia Tech Police (540) 231-6411.
Submit an Online Work Order
When you are submitting your work order, you will enter your e-mail address
and phone number so staff can follow up with you about any concerns. Remember,
your room number is 4 digits (such as 0123 or 0B23 for basement rooms). Try
to match your work order type from the closest menu item. Explain your issue
as fully as possible for the staff in the comments section.
You will receive immediate confirmation e-mail when you successfully submit
your work order request online, and you will also receive an email when the
work order has been completed and closed by the supervisory staff.
