Key Access/ControlYour Room Key When you check in, you'll be issued keys for your room and mailbox. In some buildings this will be two separate keys. In most situations, however, one key will operate both the lock to your room and your mailbox. In some buildings, keys to suite doors and shower rooms are also issued. If you lose your keys, the lock on your door or suite or shower door will be changed at a cost to you. There is also a replacement charge for a mailbox key. You should report lost keys immediately to your area office for replacement. Virginia State law prohibits the duplication of residence hall keys for any reason. Locked Out? If you find yourself locked out of your room, resident advisors/house managers have access to master keys and may only unlock the room to which you are assigned. This service is provided as a courtesy, but keep in mind that abuse (more than three unlocks per semester) of this service may jeopardize your privileges. If your RA/house manager is not available and you have lost your room key(s), contact your area office first, and then the main office at 109 East Eggleston Hall, if needed. Housekeeping and maintenance staff members are not permitted to let residents into their rooms. For Student Programs' staff members, keys are handled by the Owens Hall Key Control Office. If you have a question about keys or access control, please contact the Key Control Staff. Key Control StaffAccess Manager - Nancy White, nawhite@vt.edu
