Getting Settled

What is there for students to do during the first couple weeks? It's such a big school, how can I meet new people?

We understand that the school can sometimes seem overwhelming, which is why we offer a variety of welcome activities to help you settle in, meet fun new people, and get adjusted to your new life. Check out the Hokie F6 calendar for exciting events offered during the first week. They even give away prizes if you attend all of their events (they gave away a Nintendo Wii and a flat-screen TV last year, so you know they're not messing around).

A lot of residence halls and organizations have picnics and activities in the first week to help everyone get acquainted, so be sure to ask your resident advisor or neighbors so you can stay in the know.

If you're looking to go hang out with your new friends, or just relax and play some games, head to Squires and check out the BreakZONE, which features state of the art pool tables, a bowling alley, 3 table tennis tables, and a bunch of video games, including DDR Extreme Mix.

There's a ton to do on campus and we'll make sure you have plenty of opportunities to meet new people. We're excited to have you here!

What about Blacksburg? What is there to do?

Beyond the nightlife, downtown Blacksburg offers a wide selection of restaurants, music, and shopping. Additionally, the Blue Ridge mountains provide a variety of hiking and biking trails for both the avid hiker and the weekend wanderer.
