The Office of Student Programs Seeks Nominations for the 2006-2007 A. Alan Baird AwardBLACKSBURG, Va., Feb. 21, 2007—The Office of Student Programs is seeking nominations for the 2006-2007 A. Alan Baird Award. The award honors the student who has contributed the most to the residence hall community during or culminating in the current academic year. The past and cumulative contributions of the nominee will also be taken into account. All students are eligible for the award, including those not affiliated with Student Programs and those who do not currently reside on campus. The award is made possible through the generosity of the family and friends of Alan Baird, Class of 1988, who died in March 1992. Baird served as president of the Residence Hall Federation of Virginia Tech and president of the Virginia Association of College and University Residence Halls during his senior year in 1987-1988. He was a student leader who left a permanent mark on RHF and the residence life program. Anyone may nominate a candidate for this award. Nominations can be submitted online through Friday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. Hard copy attachments, letters, and supporting information are to be turned in c/o Katie Gehrt, 43 Owens Hall. The Baird Award will be presented during the University Student Leadership Awards ceremony sponsored by the Leadership Development Office on Thursday, April 19 in Squires Student Center. The recipient of the award will receive a cash prize, a plaque, and have his or her name inscribed on the recipient plaque in 109 East Eggleston Hall. |
