Princeton Review names Virginia Tech Dining No. 1 for ‘Best Campus Food’

Staff members celebrate their new ranking

BLACKSBURG, Va., July 30, 2009—Virginia Tech serves the best food in the nation, according to The Princeton Review’s "Best 371 Colleges: 2010 Edition," released this month. The university’s Dining Services also received a No. 1 ranking for “Best Campus Food” in 2008 from the Princeton Review, and was honored with the prestigious Ivy Award from “Restaurants and Institutions” magazine in March of this year.

Virginia Tech's Princeton Review ranking indicates the highest student satisfaction rating among college dining programs in the United States. Students from the featured schools complete opinion polls about their colleges, which are compared to evaluations from students at other colleges. Many prospective college students use Princeton Review rankings to obtain information about a school when applying for college.

Providing high-quality food, offering excellent customer service, and staying at the forefront of current dining trends have become hallmarks of dining at Virginia Tech. Dining Services continuously improves its restaurants, employs executive chefs and trained culinary professionals, and follows stringent food safety procedures in an effort to provide the best college foodservice.

The program has received numerous awards in the past, and its success stems from an effort to tailor facilities to students’ needs. Students are encouraged to share their opinions by talking to dining center staff or filling out online and paper comment cards. A panel of Student Advisory Committee volunteers meets regularly with administrators to provide input. Dining Services has made changes to menus, improved facilities, and modified hours of operation as a result of feedback from these programs.

“We are very proud to be ranked No. 1 again by the Princeton Review. This ranking is a tribute to the talented and hard-working management and staff of Dining Services,” said Rick Johnson, director of Housing and Dining Services.

Virginia Tech’s Dining Services is a department within the Division of Student Affairs.
