The WELL

Students socialize at the WELL kickoff

The Wellness Environment for Living and Learning (WELL) has been recognized as one of the 20 best examples of collaborative learning programs in the United States by the Joint Task Force of the American Association of Higher Education, the American College Personnel Association, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

At the WELL, residents foster an environment where you can successfully live a substance-free lifestyle, which means free of smoke, alcohol, and tobacco. The WELL offers a two-credit optional healthy living course available only to residents of the WELL that assists students in developing a wellness lifestyle and helps them make valuable connections with faculty and staff on campus. Past WELL residents have had significantly higher grade point averages than other residence hall students in comparison groups.

The WELL program includes a student-run community board that you can join to gain valuable leadership experience and learn important practical skills. Community board committees include:

The Standards Committee: decides what guidelines (in addition to university policies) that members of the WELL will live by.

The Programs Committee: gains practical experience in leadership, teamwork, time management, and many other valuable skills as you work with others to develop programs, activities, and resources for the good of the community.

The Public Relations Committee: gains practical experience in public relations, marketing and advertising of programs and activities, developing newsletters, and maintaining the WELL student website.

For more information about the WELL program, contact the Theme Housing Office at themevt@vt.edu.

Community Standards

The WELL is a substance free community. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (in any form) are not allowed in this area. This restriction applies to all WELL residents and their guests. Residents who fail to comply with community standards as specified by the WELL Community Standards Board, the provisions of this agreement, or the Housing and Dining contract, will be referred to the Community Standards Board for a community hearing. Residents not in compliance may be reassigned to another room on campus.

All terms and conditions of the Virginia Tech Housing/Dining Services Contract are in no way affected by the additional requirements listed in this document. In the event of a conflict, the terms and conditions of the Housing/Dining Services Contract take precedence. The Housing/Dining Contract remains valid for the academic year as long as the student is enrolled for regular classes at the university, regardless of whether the student is assigned to the WELL or subsequently reassigned from the WELL to another room on campus.
