West End Market

West End Market West End Market

West End Market, our most innovative dining center, was the 1999 national award winner as the Best College Specialty Restaurant in the United States. Featured in this unique marketplace are seven restaurants: Bistro Firenze, Wired, Leaf & Ladle, JP's Chop House, Wrap World, Cutting Edge Delicatessen, and the Fighting Gobbler Sports Lounge. West End Market focuses on made-to-order entrées and food that is prepared right before your eyes! Steak by the ounce, the seafood catch of the day, pasta and Italian sauces, as well as freshly baked pastries and breads are just a few of the delicious options that are available. You can enjoy all of this in West End Market's Fighting Gobbler Sports Lounge, complete with two big-screen projection TVs and sound wired directly to each table. There is even a lobster tank with fresh Maine lobsters that can be cooked to order daily.

History

Cochrane Dining Hall was originally opened as part of the New Undergraduate Facility (NUF) in 1982. The name was changed in 1988. Its size was extremely small in relation to Dietrick. Its cozy atmosphere provided a sense of home to approximately 330 of Virginia Tech's students.

Cochrane Dining Hall closed in the spring of 1997 to make way for a major renovation. Cochrane Dining Hall reopened in January 1999 with a new name, West End Market. It was the first true marketplace on a university campus in the United States and continues to be one of the most innovative and exciting university dining venues.
