Virginia Tech Dining is doing its part to keep you and the planet healthy.

We’re making changes that will benefit you and minimize our impact on the environment by decreasing food processing needs and supporting organic and local growers. Here are some of the changes you’ll see:

More whole grains

More locally grown foods

Organic choices at Deet’s Place

Fewer trans fats

Look for organic and sustainable foods at Farms and Fields Project in Owens Food Court. Check out the menus and other notes of interest on the Farms and Fields blog at farmsandfields.wordpress.com.

Yes To Go LogoAlso new this year, is the YES to Go program. This program was created in response to requests from students for more healthier grab-n-go options.  A total of 21 new options are available at DXpress; with several of these also available at Hokie Grill and Shultz Express.  All items have less than 600 calories and contain heart healthy fats.

One component of the program gives students an opportunity to talk about their nutritional needs directly with the Student Programs administrative dietitian, Jenny Lindsey .  One-on-one appointments may be scheduled with Jenny or for individual questions at other times, you can e-mail Jenny at yes@vt.edu .

Take a look at MyPyramid.gov

MyPyramid.gov

The USDA has created a website to help people learn about healthy eating.  MyPyramid is a personalized approach that creates a pyramid to your age, gender and activity level.  The website MyPyramid.gov gives you this customized pyramid along with tons of information on healthy eating.
